Spring is in the air, and with it comes the promise of warm weather and beautiful blooms. For me, one of the most iconic images of summer is that of lavender fields in the South of France. These fields are a riot of colour, and the smell of lavender is simply intoxicating.
If you're lucky enough to visit the South of France in the June or July be sure to take a drive through some of the lavender fields. The fields are often located near the mountains, so you'll also get to enjoy some stunning views. And of course, be sure to stop and take some pictures!
Lavender is a beautiful and versatile plant, and it can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used to make essential oils, perfumes, and cosmetics. It can also be used to add flavour to food and drinks. And of course the vivid colours are an immediate draw for painters.
So, if you're heading south and fancy a spot of painting “en plein air”, give the lavender fields a go. You won't be disappointed!
If we’re lucky and have a good summer again in the UK there are also many fields here that can offer stunning subjects to paint.
