The views from Newlands Corner on the North Downs in Surrey are almost always spectacular. Towards the south are the rolling ups and downs of the Weald with the South Downs often visible almost 30 miles away. The colours change endlessly depending on the time of day and the weather.
Such a landscape is almost irresistible to photographers and artists of all genres who are often to found painting “en plein air”.
As I drove past this week I couldn’t help popping out of the car to do a quick sketch to note down the muted but interesting range of tones and colours in the frosty morning.
